A day of Thanks and Giving

In the apartment where I live and office from, there has been a great number of newly arriving Iraqi Refugee families.  Therefore, we re-opened our clothing closet and made a lot of special new friends in the process.  On Fridays, we meet for Tea Time so they can practice their English as we discuss community development topics.

*We need winter clothes and warm coats for ALL sizes!

The pictures below are from our Thanksgiving Celebration with the ladies and their kids...

Tea Time!
p.s. this is a tea set that I brought back from Turkey several years ago.  The women were impressed!

Me in the kitchen, what a concept! Ha!

Group picture, well an attempt at it anyways!

The Iraqi women brought all the food, and us American women provided Pepsi and salad! Ha ha!

The kids were off school that day, so they joined us.
p.s. this is a table cloth that I brought back from Peru this summer, it was fun to get to use it!

After lunch, the kids drew pictures of the things they were thankful for.

Then I got some of the pictures as gifts, awh, so sweet!

Then the sugar RUSH hit and we said goodbye! HA!

God speaks through nature...

Getting back to the basics of child-like FAITH and FUN!
a.k.a. PLAYING IN THE RAIN...

Matthew 18:3-4
3And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Holding on for dear life...!

You may be asking yourself:
"What in the world got into them?"
OR you are at least asking:
"What in the world are they wearing?"

After an extremely rough couple of weeks, we needed to focus on the JOY of the Lord not the schemes of the devil. So we decided to dress up in funny clothes from our clothing closet and go play in the rain! We did whatever we thought kids would do: we splashed, we danced, we played in the mud...we had so much FUN! I knew we were accomplishing our mission when I saw a little boy about 5 years old peeking out the window at us...I think even he thought we were crazy! It was so refreshing to be cleansed by God!

We needed BREAKTHROUGH so we went to the WOODS!
And WOW, we had great revelation and made A LOT of decisions that day! I highly recommend getting out of the office and into nature! We found a lot of answers in His creation! A few bugs and rain drops too, but that didn't hurt too bad! He he, ha ha!

The Girls:
We love studying the Bible, praying and ALWAYS laughing together!

Rainy days don't interrupt basketball games with the boys!!

I was sure glad to see that rainbow, it is always good to have a reminder...

Genesis 9:8-13

8 Then God said to Noah...11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." 12 And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my RAINBOW in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

And one last picture:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our new friend Rosa!
We are so happy to add more to the FAMILY!

Our Team
Vickery Meadow Ministry
2010

We are honored to have Kristen and Paola on staff.
They bring important gifts to the team...and did I mention, they both speak Spanish!?!
Woo Hoo!!!

A few weeks ago God led Kristen and her husband to move into my apartment complex to invest and live in community with the new Cuban refugee families. We have had so much fun getting to know the Cubans: laughing, dancing, eating, and lots of translation (they speak Spanish). Several of them have shown a lot of interest in learning more about Jesus already!

Me and others on their moving day...lots of stairs!

Kristen and our friend Brian jamming some worship music and a little Guns n' Roses too!

God called us to this apartment complex (right around the corner from where we live and work), where we have been investing for several months. We bring church to people who cannot or will not go to church on their own but are HUNGRY for the Word of God! We have been invited into many peoples homes, introduced to friends and family, and asked to come back and have Church with them!

Me and some of the kids in a community we are working in.

We met their parents one day just walking through the apartment complex meeting and praying for people...God had them prepared and it was clear they were in need of Him. Our friendship has been going strong since then and we have been studying the bible together, they have been reading on their own, and sharing what they have learned and inviting others.
Some have started singing and offering live gospel for us...it is truly beautiful!

As you know, a lot of the work we are doing we cannot take pictures of people and can't share a lot of specifics. But I wanted to tell you about the new strategy God has given our ministry to practice and be trained in Church Planting Movement (CPM). It has helped us tremendously with reaching and bringing church to places where the Church does not exsist...the unreached people of Dallas. Please pray with us for the Church Planting Movement God is preparing for us here in Dallas. Pray we will learn to be a Church that meets together daily, eats together in our homes, with glad and sincere hearts praising God and enjoying all the people...pray the Lord will add to our numbers daily who are being saved. (Acts 2:46-47)

We have had to step away from visiting brothels at this time. About a year ago the Lord gave me a high sense of urgency to be bold and urgent with His gospel in brothels, I had a picture of the door closing...so I knew there would be a time when we could not get into brothels. Right now brothel doors are shut to us but the Lord is opening many new doors and showing the fruit in His will and His ways.

We have 3 main focuses areas right now
  1. A huge apartment complex around the corner from my apartment. There is one other ministry there who is working with kids and youth and they asked us to come in and "bring church." Kyle had a vision from God several years ago about doing this in this exact apartment complex. God has clearly prepared this community, almost everyone we meet is soft, open and hungry for God. Our friends there so far have mental and physical disabilities, are involved in prostitution, past gangs members, have drug and alcohol additions, the majority are single parents, etc...all know there is more to life than this and want to seek and know the Lord, their Savior.
  2. Our apartment complex where many refugee family from around the world (numerous religions) are resettled. Their need for community and acceptance into this country is great. Their need to hear the gospel, some for the first time, is even greater.
  3. Loving on the gay community and studying God Word together. Our friends in the gay community have been deeply wounded by the church. We are there to love on them, study God's word together, learn about God's mercy, grace and His truth. We pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to come into their lives so they can find their identity in Christ's love.
Thank you for all your support and prayers over the last 2 years!

Here is a quick summary of the GLORIOUS time in Peru...

I was embracing the Peruvian Braids...how'd I look?!?!

Our groups was so much fun...can't you tell!?!!

The Drama: performed on the streets of Peru
Kyle (as Jesus) and Kristen (two of my teammates in the ministry)
I was so proud of them!

There were no words, only music, it was very powerful!
Many (including me) cried every time!

Me and our local friend, Marco ministering to and comforting a battered and abandoned wife and mother of a handicapped child. Her story was unimaginable. We were able to share the comforting love and promises of God.

This man had been on crutches for a long time and he asked us to pray for him after one of the drama performances. We prayed for a long time, each time we prayed, he said the pain was getting less and less. He was clapping and thanking God and walked away in less pain and full of love.

This 13 year old girl was in the hospital because she tried to kill herself. While we were there, she closed her eyes and asked God if he was real. She started to smile and said she saw an image of God and He said, "I hear you and I have not forgotten you." She was overcome with joy and asked us how she could have Jesus in her heart. She wanted to tell others about what happened to her.

Prayer NEEDED for a woman that wants out of the sex industry…

We have a friend that REALLY needs your prayers RIGHT NOW! When we walked into the club yesterday, she immediately broke down and told us things she has never told us and how she was so DESPERATE to get out of the business! We cried, talked and prayed for 2 hours with her. We assured her that we would help her, support her, and love her if she left. She was crying and begging for us to call her today and help her find a job. We tried to get her to leave with us, but she said she couldn’t. We have tried to call her and text her, but there is no response yet…so we REALLY need your prayers. She is desperate, but so deep in this I know she can’t see a way out.

There are so many details that I want to tell you so you know how to pray for her specifically and so you can understand where she is coming from. But I want to honor her and respect her privacy. She knows the Lord, so please pray she will surrender her own ways and trust Him to the fullest and to have the strength to make this change.

What I can share with everyone is the TESTIMONY of the POWER OF PRAYER! The Lord reminded us this week that this is a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:10-20). And we cannot fight on our own, with our natural minds and human efforts…so we spent a long time in prayer before we went to the club yesterday, listening to God and praying for specific direction. In that prayer time, the Lord reminded us of something He spoke to us more than a year ago, “you are looking for just one, and that one will lead so many others to Me.” We worshiped on the way to the club and then we prayed again for a long time before going in. In this prayer time, God reminded us of the vision that He gave us about THIS girl that we are praying for today, that she is the “one” that will lead to many others. We asked God, “if this girl was the ‘one’ that she would be there and for breakthrough TODAY!” She (and our team) was supernaturally prepared for His agenda today! We came together and asked our God and He answered. THANK YOU LORD!

Jesus says in John 14:11-13, “Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is within me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth; anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so the Son may bring glory to the Father.”

To you, the reader, what do you need from God today…no matter how big or little? He wants us to ask and to be specific with Him so we know, when He answers our prayers. Be specific, talk to Him, ask Him, He will come through for you. If you need someone to pray with you please call or email me directly! He is a GOOD God, He is in a GOOD mood, and He loves you and wants to provide for you!

Peru Mission Trip – June 2010

As many of you know, I am part of a discipleship training school, within my local church (Fall 2009-Spring 2010). I am learning and growing more than I could have imagined and I am so thankful for all that the Lord has taught me through this class. An important part of the training school is to teach us to be disciple-makers and increase our experience and confidence in sharing Jesus’ love with the rest of the world…fulfilling the Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-19:

Then Jesus said, “…go and make disciples of all nations.”

Once a month, as a class, we go out into our local community to share the gospel through prayer, evangelism and service. Additionally, THIS JUNE, the class will go on a short-term mission trip to Cusco, PERU!!!!! Our time in Peru will be spent serving a local church in hospitals, orphanages, churches, children's ministry and the local University.

Waiting in line for LOVE, HOPE and ANSWERS...

In the last few months, we have gone into several NEW brothels and clubs and have been welcomed with not only open arms, but HUNGRY hearts…when we prayed for one, about 15 girls actually lined up to receive prayer…everyone wanted prayer, waited for prayer, needed prayer! Then girls asked us if we would call them and if they could come to church with us…yes, you heard me right, they asked us! These girls are hungry and in need of LOVE from the Father and HOPE from the Savior!

Just before Christmas, and in early January, we took gift bags with warm hats, gloves, scarves and soft blankets. The girls were saying things like, "this is the only gift I will get this year." And, "thank you so much, yall are so nice, oh you are going to make me cry." Huge smiles were all over their faces!

And one of the girls in the club we have visited for over a year, told us that she just got a real job…she was screaming when she told us about it…YEA, woo hoo…Thank you Jesus! Please pray for this new job and that she will be able to support herself financially!

NEW News and Prayer Request:

The Lord has placed several other ministries who are already reaching out to strip clubs in Dallas in our path, and some have interest in brothels too. We have a meeting with everyone this Thursday and will be working on strategy to partner and network with one another…with the goal of reaching ALL CLUBS AND BROTHELS in Dallas with the LOVE of Jesus! He is uniting His body to heal hearts and restore lives! Just wait, it is COMING and it is going to be AMAZING!

Please be praying for wisdom, discernment, unity, and for the Power of God to take over, that we will be small instruments in His BIG plan!
